KP Sub Lord Table

Every zodiac division Krishnamurti Paddhati uses to name a cuspal sub-lord: all 243 sign → nakshatra → sub-lord segments, with pada and star lord, computed directly from the engine’s own recursive Vimshottari division — not a hand-typed lookup.

How this table is built

Krishnamurti Paddhati divides each of the 27 nakshatras (13°20’ wide) into nine sub-divisions whose widths are proportional to the Vimshottari dasha years (Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17 — 120 total), starting from the nakshatra’s own star lord and cycling onward. A planet’s cuspal sub-lord is whichever of these 243 segments its exact longitude falls into — the single most decisive factor in a KP judgment (see Cuspal Sub-Lord & the Promise of a House).

Why 243, not 27: 27 nakshatras × 9 sub-divisions each = 243 segments. Go one level deeper (Sub-Sub Lord) and it becomes 243 × 9 = 2,187 — used internally for finer timing, but not shown here since a reference table at that resolution stops being human-readable. The 249 numbers used in KP horary are laid over this same table: see the KP Horary Number table.

FAQ

What is a sub lord in KP astrology?

In KP astrology each nakshatra is split into nine sub-divisions in proportion to the Vimshottari Dasha years, and the planet ruling a division is its sub lord. With 27 nakshatras that gives 243 divisions, listed in the table above. KP gives the sub lord more weight than the sign lord when judging a house.

What is CSL (cuspal sub lord) in KP?

CSL is the sub lord of a house cusp. KP reads its star and sub lord significations to decide whether that house’s matter is promised, denied or delayed, which makes it the central judgment tool. See how a cuspal sub-lord promises or denies an event.

What are sub-sub lords?

Each sub is divided again in the same Vimshottari proportions, and the ruler of that finer division is the sub-sub lord, giving 243 × 9 = 2,187 divisions. KP uses this level for finer timing. It is not shown in this table because a reference table at that resolution stops being readable.

Can I download the KP sub lord table?

Yes. The Download CSV button above saves the table to a file you can open in a spreadsheet, with the sign, sign lord, nakshatra, pada, star lord, sub lord and the start and end degrees of each division.

What is a cuspal sub-lord?

The finest-grained KP lord governing an exact longitude — the ninth-level subdivision of a nakshatra. It is the single factor KP relies on most heavily to judge whether a house promises an event.

Why do sub-lord divisions have different widths?

Each of the nine divisions within a nakshatra is proportional to that planet’s Vimshottari dasha years out of 120 total — so Venus’s slice (20/120) is wider than Sun’s (6/120), inside every single nakshatra.

How is this different from a star lord?

The star lord (nakshatra lord) is coarser — one of only 27 values. The sub lord subdivides each star lord’s span into nine further pieces, which is why two planets sharing a star lord often have different sub lords.
